I-5 Antlers Bridge Replacement over Sacramento River, Shasta County, CA
Mountain Pacific, Inc. is working on the replacement of the Antlers Bridge on Interstate 5 in Shasta County over the Sacramento River arm of Shasta Lake near the community of Lakehead. The project includes the construction of a 1,942-ft. long, 104-ft. wide, five-span cast in place reinforced concrete segmental box girder bridge and the demolition and removal of the existing 1,330-ft.long structure. It’s a main route of travel between Portland, Oregon and Los Angeles, and nearly 30 percent of the traffic is truck traffic. Working around Shasta Lake has posed a unique set of challenges to the contractors, especially the fluctuating lake levels, which require innovative construction methods for temporary structures being designed by Mountain Pacific, as well as unique art features to provide relief on the fasciae of the bridge over the 4 year construction. Mountain Pacific, Inc. designed the model demonstration wall to exhibit the prototype for the ultimate construction. In addition, Mountain Pacific’s innovative and specialized overhead form design was used for the cast-in-place segmental structures on this project,as well as the falsework designs and guying systems.
